The Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
Story |
Indoor environments are as altered by the advances of civilization as outdoor environments are. We seal our buildings tighter. We have introduced thousands of coatings, glues, fabrics, insulators, insecticides, disinfectants, personal care products, soaps, perfumes, refrigerants, lubricants, dry cleaning chemicals, packaging materials, and who knows what else. It may be safer to be in the wilderness than in our own home. We spend 90% of our time indoors breathing these potential contaminants!
Experts warn that fumes of various cleaning products can cause learning disabilities. Dust mite excrement is highly prone to cause allergic reactions. These microscopic creatures live close to their food source (dead skin). Literally our bedding can become a cafeteria and breeding ground. The ceiling? Styrene, Fiberglass, Wood, all are porous materials that are convenient places for the accumulation of disease-causing pollutants. Think of your duct work, full of mold, mildew, dust and bacteria. Modern homes are becoming more energy efficient, allowing for almost no fresh air to be circulated into a room.
Only 10% of colds are caught outdoors. 90% are caught indoors! Nature destroys germs and dust outdoors, but our energy-efficient homes keep nature out, and germs in! 80% of what's floating in a ray of sunshine is dead skin from people who have been in this room. The air in our house/building is Highly Complex, Somewhat Unpredictable, Potentially Dangerous.
It's the constancy of exposure and long-range effect that makes indoor air pollution so pandemic. From the floor of the House of Representatives, indoor pollution has been called our greatest environmental problem. In homes, cars, schools, commercial sites, and workplaces, we breathe less-than-ideal air all day long and year-around. A Person Averages Over 20,000 Breaths Each Day and we get almost 60% of our energy from the air we breathe.
A solution already exists. It involves three processes:
| 1. Disinfections | 2. Oxidation | 3. Particulate Control |
But first...you should understand "How Nature Cleans House"
The earth recycles her assets in many ways. One system for converting organic waste into fresh resources involves ozone, the same oxygen variant which blocks UV rays in the upper atmosphere. Closer to home, ozone reduces organic "stuff" into carbon dioxide, water vapor, and oxygen. To a non-chemist this may sound unreal, but it does happen. Nature is remarkable.
The sun gives off electric charges, changing some positive particulates in the air to a negative charge. These negative particles are attracted to existing positive particles, and as they join, they become heavy and cannot stay airborne. The sun's rays then create low level ozone. As nature's most powerful oxidizing agent, ozone completes nature's process of reducing contaminants to harmless natural substances.
So we advocate indoor ozonation. Indoor air has less ozone than outdoor air because no lighting bolts, sun rays, waves, or waterfalls are there to create it. It makes sense to replace the missing ozone. Without it, indoor dust floats, gathers in balls, collects in ducts, clings to surfaces, etc. We breathe it into our bodies several times a minute. Yuck!
How the Purification System Works (3-part process)
If only we could put our homes into a forest and let nature clean the air! Since that's not practical, we offer you air purification systems that create ion balanced air, and then create low level ozone molecules. Our units will make the air in your home, or office, mountain fresh. Nothing is more refreshing than a deep breath of clean mountain air. The solution involves three processes.
1. Disinfections 2. Oxidation
Ozone is a
natural disinfectant which reduces bacteria, mold, yeast, and fungi. Natural
outdoor ozone levels of .02 to .05 parts per million keep outdoor air healthy.
That outdoor effect can be reproduced indoors with our air purification systems.
Ozone interacts with moisture and makes small amounts of hydrogen peroxide (also
a disinfectant) resulting in a double disinfectant benefit in humid
situations.
3. Particulate Control
Our
units also reduce particulate, but not through filtration which is the only
process most people understand. Filters have limits, and flow patterns develop
leaving the "non-flow" spaces untreated. Who wants air that just passed through
a breeding nest of bacteria, and mold? If filters worked there would not be an
indoor pollution problem.
Now to particulate removal. If we don't use filtration, how is it achieved? The answer is ionization. Ions start as stable molecules or particles within an airspace. As radio waves zoom away from the antenna at the speed of light, some of the molecules/particles get charged as the power wave passes. These newly charged ions have a magnetic-like attraction to nearby pollutants. The link-ups happen quickly but more ions are always being made. Molecule/particle clusters grow heavier and heavier until finally they settle to the floor.
"Recently we had a new rubber backed carpet installed...This created a very strong synthetic odor throughout the office. By using my Air Purification System, we were able to eliminate almost all of the odor within three days. In the past, when new carpet was installed, it has taken weeks to get rid of the smell." R. Clark...Orlando, FL.
"My bedroom is in the basement of my daughter's home, and the Air Purification System makes the musty smell clean and fresh as a summer rain. I am forever grateful for this marvelous machine. Life is wonderful again!" B. Dawson...Chicago, IL.

Lennox - Air Advice
(product information & ordering)
Are you concerned about the
indoor air quality in your home or office? According to the EPA, most of us
spend 95% of our time indoors and indoor air pollution can be 2 to 5 times worse
than outdoor air! At EDS Zone we know that the HVAC system in your home and/or
office should improve the quality of air you breathe.

Carrier - Totaline (product information &
ordering)
Totaline UV Air Purifiers not only help to destroy
contaminants, they are ozone friendly as well. Since they use only UVC lamps,
the units will not emit any ozone into the atmosphere. Due to studies concerning
the harmful effects of ozone and increasing EPA restrictions, Totaline has
chosen to provide the safer alternative in Ultra-Violet Air Purification.

Biozone Scientific Air Purifiers (product information & ordering)
Biozone uses science and
electronics to develop advanced purifying technologies. Biozone Germicidal
Ultraviolet Light Air Purifiers clean the air of biological contaminants like
bacteria, viruses, chemicals, microbes, germs and mold, destroy hazardous fumes,
remove harmful particulates, and neutralize all unpleasant odors by using
germicidal ultraviolet light waves, purifying hydroxyls, activated oxygen, and
photo-ionization. Several models available for different purification
applications consistently shows 99% reduction (or more) of airborne and surface
bacteria in independent studies.
